An experienced residential housekeeper, able to provide 5* services, is required to work within a small team in a large, luxury property in St Remy de Provence. The housekeeper will be responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the main house and annexes, ensuring all is permanently ready for the family to visit.  During periods of residence, the housekeeper may be required to lead a very small team when larger numbers of guests are in residence.

 

The property is used by the family for only 3 to 4 weeks per year and the Principal usually arrives with additional service/catering staff and a PA. Outside of the family visits, once the property is prepared to the required level following visits by the Principal, the housekeeper will generally work 4-5 hrs per day 5 days per week. Extra hours will be required during the three to four weeks when the Principal and guests are in residence.

 

Applicants must be discreet and trustworthy, able to work with complete autonomy, have a keen eye for detail, work with precision and efficiency, have meticulous standards along with a knowledge of caring for fine furnishings, objet d’art, household crystal, antiques, luxury fabrics and designer wardrobe items. This role would suit a mature candidate who has a calm and professional attitude, confident in their ability to provide a high-quality service – someone who takes real pride in their work.

 

Duties will include:

• 5* Housekeeping Services

• Household and personal laundry

• Stock control and linens inventory

• Household accounts

• Preparation and service of meals (in absence of the butler and/or chef)

• Flower-arranging using flowers from the grounds

• Update crystal, silver, china and linen inventories 

• Packing and unpacking

• Creating and implementing a housekeeping manual

• Provide monthly written report to employer’s office

• Oversight of any interior contractors

• Liaising with the Head Gardener and the Property Caretaker re: maintenance/security/flowers/fresh produce etc

 

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years similar professional experience

• Knowledge of care of luxury items and wardrobe

• High levels of spoken English & French

• Good family-level cook

• Clean driving license

• Recent DBS or casier judiciare

• A positive, can-do attitude

• Uniform to be worn when the family is in residence.

• Excellent checkable references

• Non-smoker preferred

• EU nationality or long-term French residency is essential

 

A beautiful independent cottage on the grounds of the property is offered to the housekeeper who will also have use of a car. A part-time housekeeper, four gardening staff and a residential caretaker are also employed on a permanent basis at the property.
